Crochet companion for iPhone

Every project, every skein, never lose your place

Yarnova holds the whole of your crochet life in one place: the row you stopped on, the yarn in the basket behind the sofa, and the three projects you swear you will finish this month.

Sound familiar?

The small chaos of loving crochet

None of this means you are disorganized. It means you make things, and making things spreads out. Yarnova gathers it back up.

  1. You were on row 47. Or was it 51?

Someone asks a question, the kettle boils, and the number you were holding in your head is gone. You count the rows back one at a time, squinting at stitches that all look the same, and hope you land on the right one.

Tap once per row. Yarnova remembers, even after you close it.
  2. That perfect blue. What was it called?

You bought it on holiday. It is somewhere in the basket behind the sofa, and you need one more skein to finish the sleeve. The band came off months ago.

Photograph each yarn once. Brand, fiber and count stay with it.
  3. Three projects, three different hooks

The cardigan is on a 4mm, the blanket needs the 6mm you cannot find, and the little owl has been waiting since spring. Picking one back up means remembering how it was set up.

Each project keeps its own hook, yarn, steps and progress.
  4. Patterns saved in six different places

Some are screenshots, some are in a browser tab you are afraid to close, and one is on a piece of paper folded into the project bag.

Keep the ones you are actually making in one library.

Row counter

Count rows without holding the number in your head

Tap the counter as you work. Yarnova keeps the number safe when you put the phone down, close the app, or leave the project for a fortnight.

  • Set a target so you can see how many rows are left, not just how many are done.
  • Count in intervals for patterns that tell you to increase every third or fourth row.
  • Link two counters so a repeat counter moves the row counter along with it.

Yarn stash

Know what you own before you buy more of it

Photograph a yarn once and it stays recognizable forever: the colorway you loved, the brand you forgot, and how much of it is actually left.

  • Yarn, hooks and needles each get their own tab, so your tools are as findable as your yarn.
  • Count your skeins so you know whether there is enough for the whole blanket.
  • Search your own shelves when a pattern calls for a particular weight or fiber.

Project tracking

Come back to a project and know exactly where you were

Bigger makes get broken into parts, such as the sole, the upper and the assembly, so a half-finished project reads as a set of steps rather than a mystery.

  • Work through steps and tick them off as the piece takes shape.
  • See real progress as a percentage across the whole project, not just the row you are on.
  • Time your sessions to learn how long a make really takes you.

Questions

Before you download

Is Yarnova free to use?

Yes. Yarnova is free to download from the App Store, and you can track projects, count rows and organize your yarn stash without paying anything.

Does the row counter work while my phone screen is off?

Your counts are saved as you tap, so closing the app or locking your phone never loses your place. Open Yarnova again and every counter is exactly where you left it. There is more detail on the row counter page.

Can I use Yarnova for knitting as well as crochet?

Yes. The stash tracks needles alongside hooks and yarn, the counters work for rows or rounds in either craft, and the gauge tool covers both hook and needle sizes.

Do I need an internet connection?

Your projects, counters and stash live on your device, so counting rows and checking your stash works anywhere, including on a plane, in a car, or in the corner of a café with bad signal.

What can I keep in my yarn stash?

Yarn with its brand, fiber and how many skeins you own, plus your crochet hooks and knitting needles. Each entry can carry a photo, so you recognize a colorway at a glance instead of by name. See the yarn stash guide.

Your next project is waiting

Bring your projects, your stash and your row counts together, and spend the evening making instead of looking for things.
